About my village and our Temble

Mezhuveli is a beautiful village situated between the holy rivers Pamba and Achankovil. This is a typical Kerala village blended with greenish beauty of nature. It is located 16 km south-west of Pathanamthitta and 13km east of Chengannur. This portal is dedicated to Mezhuveli Ananda Bhootheswaram temple, which is more than 100 years old and has rebuilt recently. The idol of Mezhuveli temple is Lord Siva . Within the temple there are also the idols of Ganesha,Sree Ayyappa, Muruga,Devi,Guru swamy,Rakshas and Naga Devatas.

Temple History

Anandabhootheshawara Temple is situated at the heart of Mezhuveli. This temple was built by the villagers under the leadership of famous social reformer and poet Sri.Mooloor S Padmanabha Panicker. This century old temple was built on a place called ‘Tholekavu’ which was surrounded by a small hill called ‘Meenchirakkal Hill’ on the southern side, ‘Ambottimodi’ also called ‘Kailasam’ on the east, a beautiful stream flowing on the western side near “Pottanmala’ and at the north side ‘Padmanabhan Kunnu’, a small hill. Tholekavu was a small forest, which is believed to be a part of the Pandlam Kingdom.

The town has a population of 38,000. It is known as the 'Pilgrim Capital of Kerala'. Pathanamthitta is a fast-developing town and business center. It is the main transport hub to the famous Hindu pilgrim center of Sabarimala. The main trunk road to Sabarimala is from Pathanamthitta. The Main Eastern Highway (Punalur-Pathanamthitta-Muvattupuzha Road/SH-08) and T.K.Road (Thiruvalla-Pathanamthitta-Kumbazha Road/SH-07) pass through Pathanamthitta. Pathanamthitta is a cosmopolitan town, with people of different faiths like Hindus, Christians, and Muslims live in harmony. Pathanamthitta District has a communal break up of Hindus 55.58%, Christians 40.35%, Muslims 4.03%.
